Jan. 3, 2023: After we bought our boat, we had to wait until our boat insurance started before we could take her out of the marina. Tom worked in the morning and then we left the marina during pretty low tide (negative tide actually). The channel getting out of the marina is really narrow, busy, and shallow (i.e., kind of scary) so we fortunately had Patrick, a local sailor/mechanic/live aboard cruiser from London, go with us to help navigate the channel and sail for the day. We were out for over 5 hours and sailed about 15 nautical miles at a top speed of 8 knots. Winds were between 15 & 20 mph and ocean swells were up to 6 feet at times. Our bow, which has 4' of freeboard, actually dipped in the water a few times! Tom did a great job navigating the sketchy channel coming back into the marina and docking. It was a really fun and beautiful day.
